Alison Levey: I have been writing about my garden on ‘The BlackberryGarden’ blog since 2011. I am an amateur and somewhat obsessed gardener and I am based in Leicester. I write about my own garden and what inspires me to garden: gardens I have visited, plant fairs and garden shows. I also review garden related books and products. The Blackberry Garden is not a ‘how to’ blog, the aim is to talk more about the enjoyment of gardening and it is read by people who garden and people who do not, all readers and followers are very welcome.

Product Review: The Growable Calendar

I quite often get sent information on new products and initiatives and I like to be able to support ones that genuinely grasp my attention and I think may be of interest to my readers. This Growable Calendar is one such project. I have not paid for the calendar and my words and opinions are my own. The Growable Calendar is, well, exactly what it says it is. A calendar that includes pages of organic seeds you can plant at the right time and with advice so that you can be successful. It is also beautifully illustrated. Plus it is not a named for a particular year calendar, so you could start using it in July and keep using it until June next year. This makes it very practical. The makers tell me that the calendar was first launched in 2018 and it was the first on the market with plantable seed paper. Product Review: Honda izy-ON HRG 466 XB cordless lawnmover and HHT Cordless Brushcutter

Regular readers may recall that last year I went to the launch of the Honda Cordless Garde n range. It was a great day and I got to try various different Honda mowers, and hedgetrimmers and strimmers. I was therefore delighted when I received an email asking me if I would like to have the loan of some equipment to trial and review. I quickly said yes. I have to be transparent and say that I have not paid for these items. I have not be paid to write this review and my words and opinions are, as ever, my own. The first item I chose to review was the HHT Cordless Brushcutter. This is a fabulous piece of kit. The same battery fits the brushcutter and the mower which is always a good thing as it means that you do not need to buy lots of different batteries. The battery and charger are sold separately so you must remember to buy at least one. Honda sent me the 6HA battery with the equipment. The batteries come in three sizes: 4, 6 and 9 HA. The 6 HA battery takes around an hour to

A tree fern update - and then there were five....

Soooo - remember when I told you I accidentally ended up with three tree ferns ? Well, after a Winter of dressing them up as pirates there has finally been the great unwrapping. Their headscarves and straw padding have been removed until Winter returns. I have been regularly watering them as I now know that keeping them watered is the key to success. All these years I thought the great frost of 2010 killed my original tree fern, but now I suspect it might be because I rarely if ever watered it. I also now understand more about their root system better and probably digging up twice in two years did it a lot of damage that it weakened it even further. With my precious trio of tree ferns I am determined not to make the same mistakes again. The smallest of the three, Oddbod Junior Junior, was in a pot in the Courtyard Garden.
