Well, say the Quince Brothers, waggling their leaves at me, what time do you call this? You have been ignoring us for months! Four months! This is shocking and outrageous behaviour, what have you got to say for yourself?
I mumble and shuffle my feet as I totally resemble this remark. I have been neglecting my tree following duties and I have no excuse. On the other hand, I have no quinces either. No I am not excusing myself by saying with no quince count to continue I lost motivation, but I did let my eye off the ball. My bad.
Not one quince this year, not one. I blame the heat more than the drought as otherwise the trees had managed quite well through this summer. Now they are starting to show they are preparing for Autumn. The turn is upon them. At first this is always a subtle turn, a reddening of the main vein of the left. The leaves are still a good green, but the red will deepen as the leaves yellow. I must have mentioned before that fruit or no fruit this is a very garden-worthy tree.
I stand for quite a while looking up in to the Quince Brothers' leaves. Yes I am partly just checking that there really isn't a quince hiding somewhere just out of view, they do hide them sometimes. But I am also just admiring them and letting them know that even with a few missing months that I care for them the same as I ever had.
I hope they feel assured as they prepare for their winter snooze.
Until next time
Take care and be kind.
