It is that time of year, oh yes, the Quince Count shall commence! Hang on a minute I hear you mutter, I thought last month you were not that hopeful of quincing, well what a different a month makes!
Dear readers I present:
Quince Minor quinces 1 and 2. Little plump beauties are they not!
Quince Minor - quince 3 - yes, I found one hiding. Quinces like to hide, they are tricksy.Quince Minor - Quince 4 - four! yes four, another one hiding. I had to check I was not double counting I was so excited by this.but wait, what quince by yonder branch lurks......
Quince Minor quince 5 - at which point I might have uttered an expletive - five little quincelets, well more than quincelets, these must be quincelings now. We have had some rain so I am fairly hopeful at least one of these will get through to maturity. Wouldn't that be fab? Quince Minor's best. year. yet.But what of Quince Major? A total fail, I cannot see any quincelings at all and I am rather worried by this. This tree has never totally failed before so I need to think why. It is a little in the shade these days from trees that have grown up around it. It might also just be too crowded by other trees. Or maybe it is just having a year off, maybe quince trees like a rest?
Time will tell.
The full history of my tree following is here
Fun! I can imagine doing the same thing, and being just as excited, if I were growing quince fruits. "Little plump beauties," indeed. Enjoy!
