A morning of No Dig Gardening with Charles Dowding

I received an invitation to visit Charles Dowding's garden near Shepton Mallet to find out more about 'No Dig' vegetable growing and to learn about his new book ' Charles Dowding's No dig gardening Course 1 ' I am going to whisper very quietly that I try my hardest not to dig anyway, which actually made the reason to go even more acute as I was fascinated to see what he had to say. and when I say fascinated, I mean I was prepared and did drive for three hours to get there and back in a day. I have not done a lot of driving in the last five months so this felt like quite a challenge, but I really wanted to go. The garden is not huge, around a third of an acre, and it is pretty much all turned over to growing vegetables. It is used as a trial garden so some borders are dig and some no dig so that Charles can test his theories. Book Review: Rewild your garden by Frances Tophill

Regular readers will know that I have what I call 'The Wild Garden' at the top of my garden. It is about a quarter of the garden space in total and I have always been very glad to have made the decision to let it grow as it pleases. I mow paths through it, I do control some of the taller nettles but generally it does what it likes. When I was asked if I wanted to review Rewild Your Garden by Frances Tophill I said yes immediately. It is definitely something I am very interested in. I have to be clear I have not paid for this book, but I have not been paid to write this review, no one is approving the content and my words and opinions remain, as ever, my own. This is a fantastic book. It is not huge but also not small. It is a good size to pick up and put down easily. It is also packed full of information. Farewell Trevor de Tesco

Of all the things I did not expect to be doing this week: not even anywhere near the list, was saying farewell to my wonderful cat Trev, or Tesco Trev as was his full name. He was so named as he was found in bins outside a branch of Tescos. A local cat rescue charity took him in but when he was ready to be adopted no one wanted him. Apparently this is quite common with black cats for some reason I just cannot understand. I kept trying to avoid his big beautiful eyes, but I couldn't resist and Trev came to live with me just over three years ago. He was my beautiful boy, soft as grease as the saying goes. When he first arrived he was wide-eyed and scared of everything, After a few days he managed his first cuddle on his own terms and he decided it was probably going to be ok after all to live here.
