Tree Following - November - the tree pauses

In November the quince seems to hold its breath.  It is one of the earliest trees to leaf up in the garden and one of the last to let them fall.  It is still trying to stay green even though it knows it cannot win this battle.
As I move in closer to look at the tree the branches look almost dripped with paint.
Green is still the dominant colour.
but only just.
I remain, as ever, in love with the red veining that becomes so prominent this time of year.

Thanks to Lucy for hosting this meme for the past couple of years.  It has now moved on and is being hosted by The Squirrel Basket.  More trees can be found here:https://squirrelbasket.wordpress.com/tree-following/

  1. Thank you for staying with us and sharing your colourful quince - that red veining is lovely.
It's funny you should talk of the leaves looking as if they have been dipped in paint. I noticed when sweeping up the sweetgum leaves from the lawn the other day that one leaf was divided diagonally yellow and red, with a perfectly straight line between the halves. I wonder if leaves partly covered over by other leaves show patterns where the sun hits them, a bit like a photographic negative?
I look forward to seeing if your leaves have completely lost their battle to hang on in a month's time...
    All the best :)

  2. I'd not looked so closely at quince leaves before - those red veins are delightful. Another reason to get one...

  3. The red veins are beautiful, paired with the yellow of the autumn color.
