Tree Following - the first of the sleepy months

We have now reached the 11th of these posts in the Tree Following meme (thanks Lucy).

The quince tree has finally decided to go to sleep.  It cannot quite totally let go as one leaf remains.
One solitary, beautifully shaped and marked leaf.  It is the last sign that the tree had leaves and that it has not always been a bundle of twigs.  The tree just cannot quite let go, not just yet.

Now it is all about waiting for the last leaf to drop and the wait until Spring.  That glorious moment when the first signs of green return.  I shall be watching (in a totally non-threatening, non-stalkerly, supportive capacity of course).

  1. Such a pretty last keaf. Quince do seem to hold onto their leaves way past other trees. Bizarrely I already have a couple of new leaves on my quince too.

  5. That is certainly a beautifully colored last leaf, and I look forward to what transpires with your quince in the months ahead. I am not familiar with quinces so it will be an education. In fact, I only just joined Lucy's tree following project and can already tell I will be learning quite a lot about trees as time progresses.

  7. Yup. If I had one leaf to save - it would be that one. Good luck little tree. (Maybe a teaspoon of quince jam this year?)
