Product Review: Stihl RMA 339c Lawn Mower

Regular readers will know that I have reviewed a few products for Stihl from their domestic battery range. It was therefore a delight to be asked if I would review their new RMA 339c rechargeable lawnmower. I have not paid for this product but as ever my words and opinions are my own.
This is a handsome lawnmower. Stihl have until fairly recently made and sold lawnmowers under the trade name 'Viking', now they started branding them in the Stihl orange and white that we know and love.

This mower has a cutting width of 37cm. This is a good width for my lawns, not too small to mean it takes me a long time, but nippy enough that I can mow around things where I need to. It is quiet compared to non-rechargeable mowers and weighs in at 16 kg, which is quite light.

The first thing that made me like this mower was when I went to collect it.
It fitted in the boot. Admittedly the grass collection box has to sit on the passenger seat, but I had been worrying about how I would get it…

Snowdrops at Holme Pierrepont Hall

February is a funny month, not a laughing out loud funny month, but a funny peculiar month. It is short but feels long. The days get noticeably longer, yet it is often overcast and the cold nights chill to the bone. The snow period is not yet really over and winter still has us in its grip. This month is made more bearable by the glory of the snowdrop and the happiness that is a good snowdrop garden. Every year I like to wander around as many snowdrop gardens as I can. This year the odyssey has kicked off with a trip to Holme Pierrepont Hall in Nottingham.
The house dates back to c.1500 and I love this view of the house through the pudding shaped yews.
You get a glimpse of the snowdrops as you enter the garden, you are assailed by the white of the snowdrops and the most wonderful winter scent from the snowdrops and scented shrubs that line the winter walk.
It is a superb winter walk. It has to be one of the best I have visited. I love this hamamelis that was just smothered in …

End of Month Review - January 2018

January, is a cold unforgiving month. It has at least one week more than any other month as it drags itself slowly through the beginning moments of the year. Yet through the greyness, rain and snow there is always signs of hope. Life never leaves the garden and January is made bearable by the many reasons to be cheerful.
In the driveway the snowdrops I planted ten years ago multiply a little more year on year. They always make me smile when they pop up again. I muse to myself that they will one day spread, limbo under the fence and escape to freedom. In many generations time, when I and the house are long gone I tell myself there will be swaithes of snowdrops originated from this first patch.
Also in the driveway the Cornus officinalis is starting to flower and so is the Mahonia planted a couple of years ago.
In the front garden, the hamamelis by the side lawn is also emerging into flower and the little dots of yellow in the background are the winter aconites starting to flower.
