Sunrise 08.11 Sunset 16.19

"The shortest day has passed, and whatever nastiness of weather we may look forward to in January and February, at least we notice that the days are getting longer.  Minute by minute they lengthen out.  It takes some weeks before we become aware of the change.  It is imperceptible even as the growth of a child, as you watch it day by day, until the moment comes when with a start of delighted surprise we realize that we can stay out of doors in a
twilight lasting for another quarter of a precious hour."  Vita Sackville-West

  1. How very true! It is wonderful to suddenly notice that its 4:30pm and still light. It creeps up on us so quickly. Love the colour of that sky too.

  2. Thanks Ronnie - I love that I can now tell it is getting lighter - I need the longer days. It was a beautiful sunset the other day, I just happened to be at home early so rushed out and took the photo.

  3. Mostly it's been so over cast and wet here, it's hard to realise that the days are getting any longer, but then this week there have been a few frosty days, clear sky's and yes, it's noticeable, a 'smidging' lighter a wee bit longer.

  4. First winter it has actually mattered to me and yes it is perceptible now! Amazing sky. Filter or real? I suspect real.

  6. Lovely shot!

I always begin to notice the days lengthening about now, because I begin to leave work in dusk rather than total blackness (our office is in a dark yard). It's soooo welcome!

  8. I noticed this today. Hens are a real help! I thought from inside that it was dark and went to shut them up and found there was quite a lot of light still and they were still scratching about. It was ten to five and it felt as if we had turned the corner!
