Product Review: the Hydria all in one battery powered fountain

Yes, this fountain is battery powered and when the nice people from Hydria emailed me and asked if I would like one to review I could not say yes fast enough, I was intrigued. I have not paid for this product nor have I been paid to write this review. My words and opinions are entirely my own. Regular readers will know that I am not keen having electric wires trailing around the garden and that I am a big fan of solar lights etc. So this fountain which is battery powered was very interesting to me. The fountain arrived in a rather smart looking box. I quickly opened it up. This fountain kit is designed to sit in any pot of 30cm diameter and around 20 cm deep. The pot you use can of course be larger than this. You will just need to add more bedding materials to keep it at the level you want and to keep it stable/level. Product Review: Gtech Cordless Lawnmower

I was recently asked whether I would like to trial Gtech's new cordless lawnmower . When I bought my current lawnmower (an electric flymo) just over a year ago, at that time I looked at cordless ones but to be frank I did not know anyone who had one and I did not want to risk that amount of money on something that might not cope with my garden. Regular readers will know that I do have a fair amount of lawn so it was with genuine interest that I agreed to trial the mower. The mower arrived in a big box and the first job is to charge the battery. Did I say battery? Sorry, I mean flux capacitor. Oh come on, it is a flux capacitor, I don't care what you say! The machine itself is not too heavy and has rather jazzy bright green bits. It's a lawn mower, it's never going to look that sexy but for a lawnmower I can say I thought it looked very lawnmowery. Be thee Burdock?

This big, beautifully leafed plant has appeared in the Side Garden. All sorts of plants have appeared here since it was cleared last Autumn. It is currently a field of verbascums, with a verbena bananarama or two plus Welsh and annual poppies. I have tried to keep general weeds down but also just let it be. But I think this beast of a plant is burdock which means I have to make a decision. My main concerns are around how prolific it is at self seeding- which I believe it is. I am also concerned about the burrs and the cats. But the leaves are so huge and wonderful. Look at how the rain drops love them. I looked up whether the leaves are edible, which apparently they are but as they get older and bigger they get more bitter. Which made me then wonder what part of the plant is used for the Dandelion and Burdock drink that was so popular when I was a child?
