Tree following - where's my runcible spoon?

Lucy at Loose and Leafy has this great idea to follow a tree for year.  The idea is that you follow the same tree, showing what it is doing on the same day every month for a year.  I did not have to think twice about this idea.  For one thing its just a great idea, but also I am already watching my quince, or more correctly 'Cydonia oblonga 'Vranja'.
It is still quite a young tree, now in its fourth year of being in the garden.  From year 1 it had one or two blossoms, last year it had several blossoms, I got very excited hoping and hoping for my first quince.  Alas this was all to no avail, so this year I am on quince-watch again.  Will this be the year?

Time will tell!

  1. I follow my potted plum tree every year. I watch it blossom, form tiny plums - and then they all drop off! Hoping for better results this year! Good luck with your quinces:)

  2. The tiny leaves opening on thin twigs look like a little flock of bees arriving. Hope this will be the year it fruits!

  3. P.S. Please don't feel confined to observing the tree on only one day a month - even though there will be only one link box each month. You can go into greater depth if you like or record interesting things which happen on other days too and save them up for whatever kind of post you would enjoy. It's very open.

  7. A Quince is definitely on my to-plant list, I will follow with interest. It's a tantalising pass-time, isn't it, fruit-tree-watching - I planted various apples, plum and damson a couple of years ago. We have had a few apples, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a plum or two this year. I'm taking part in Loose and Leafy's Tree Following as well - I'm following a Common Alder. Despite the unexciting name, they have all sorts of uses (and weird folklore!) Hope this year is Year of the Quince...

  8. That looks like a good tree to follow, and I'm sure I'll learn things along the way too.

  9. I like it, a bit of tension in your tree following! Would be great if this was the year it delivered at least one quince.

  10. What a great idea, I might do this with the little pear tree we've just planted and see how it changes and grows (hopefully!). Cathy

  11. I shall be interested to hear if you get fruit this year. My quince tree is 3 years old and I can't wait for it to fruit. The blossom is so pretty too. A lovely choice of tree.

  13. I've got a bad attack of quince envy now. This is going to be an interesting meme to follow - will it fruit….

(I hesitated about choosing a fruit tree because mine look like illustrations for a book on things that can go wrong with fruit trees; yours is much more inspiring. Clearly I need to get a quince. It is written.)
