Tree following April 2026 - here we go

We are off!  The quince blossom has started to open and there are bees making whoopee with the pollen.  OK maybe not making whoopee, but they are having a great time collecting it and I am having a great time watching them.

Both of the Quince Brothers have a good covering of blossom.  From a blossom point of view it is a good year.  Of course I am still a bit concerned about frost, but the forecast looks hopeful that we should not get any more serious frost.  We might get a light frizzle of frost, maybe maybe, but I think we are through the worst of it now.

So that means we have some interesting weeks ahead.  First of all there is the time when the pollinated quincelets start to swell.  I watch this time carefully.  I have to hold myself back from trying not to touch them to test if they really are set or not.  They have to remain attached to the tree at this point and this always seems to be a challenge for them.  It then becomes the waiting game to see how many will reach full size.  As ever I live in a haze of optimistic hope that there will be glut this year.

To keep this in context: more than three will count as a glut.

So here we go - strap in for the ride, I hope it is going to be a good one.

Take care and be kind.
