The bamboo is flowering

Oh me, oh my, the huge bamboo is flowering.  I feel a panic coming on.

This bamboo is huge and yes I have forgotten its name, I have had this bamboo a good 20 or so years.  It came from a magazine offer when I still lived in Nottingham.  It spent its first few years in a pot near the front door and then when I moved here I planted it into what is now the Exotic Border.  It was, probably its first moment of being exotic and definitely one of the founding plants in this border.
You get some idea of its size from this photo.  I am going to say it is a good 8 or 9 feet tall.  You can also see that it has never 'run'; it is a good clump forming bamboo.
So whilst I am enjoying the wonderful burgunday/bronze colour it has become; I am not enjoying the thought that it might, like some bamboos do, die after flowering.  I have had two decades of joy from it so it is does not really owe me any favours; but it will leave a big gap to fill.

Of course as these words form in my mind I start to think about a large opportunity that might open up.  I do not want to lose the bamboo and yet there is always a silver lining when a beloved plant dies.

So I start to hum 'Que Sera Sera', I await with patience and calm belief that whatever happens will be ok.  For such is the way of the gardener.

Take care and be kind.
