Treefollowing February 2026 - a spark

I know, I know, it only seems like a week or so since I last wrote an update: shush, the January update was late.

But what a difference a week or two makes: look - we have green.  Green is go, green is go go go, green is all systems is go, green is Spectrum is Green*

Am I excited?  You betcha!  I love this time of year.  It all feels possible, it all feels just waiting to happen and the possibilities are almost endless.  Not all things are possible: the quince trees will not produce an apple or a kitten, unless a kitten gets stuck in one..... no, not everything is possible and yet there is enough possibility of harvesting a quince to make me very happy.

There are challenges along the way: we can still have frost until the third week in April and we often do.  Once we are through the frost the weather generally can have an impact: will we have a drought this year?  or will it just be waterlogged and the trees will drown?  Who can say.  As I write this there is actual sun, actual actual sun which has felt very reluctant to appear so far this year.  Rain is not far away in the forecast but it is less unremitting which is such a relief.

So: racers, start your engines and may the best quince tree win.  Good luck and don't (insert favourite Ru-Paul quote here).

Take care and be kind.
