The Southport Flower Show has quickly become a firm fixture in my garden show calendar. So firm a fixture that (she confesses) it is the only flower show I have managed to get to this year. I know, this is shocking. This made me all the more determined that I would not miss this show.
I now have my routine of photographing the flowery wall when I arrive. and I say hello to the lettersand nod to the lambanana.but then I quickly go to find the plants, as I am sure you would expect me to. I'm still having a bit of a thing about succulents so this was my first stop.and soon I am admiring fluffy sunflowers, huge dahlias, and a plant that looks like cheesy wotsits.I could not decide if this turmeric looks like caterpillars or turds - or turdapillars. I did expect them to wiggle.I loved this fairy garden, and this 'Imaginary animal' just stole my heart.I visited the show on Sunday, sell off day. Either Steve has bought this orchid, or it is an orchid call Steve. I know which I would rather. The gardens, as usual, were of a high standard.I am always very impressed by the awards that the gardens/displays win. They are just magnificent. This garden with robots caught my eye. This garden was dahlia-tastic! Just look at the abundance of colour and also different textures of flowers and foliage. I loved the sheer joy of this garden. Some gardens were more restrained, more linear. This one is one where there is much detail including the rather lovely green roof. This garden was very calming with its clean lines and sound of running water.I so wanted to sit here and drink tea and eat cake.
In the Floral Marquee I admired the begonias as I often do, but I was very well behaved and did not buy any this time. The one with snail leaves though, had I seen that one on sale I would have bought it snip/snap!
I loved the sunflower stand,
and the fabulous whale tail.In the floristry tent this bee caught my eye. We had a great day, these fluffy coconut macaroons hit the spot when we wanted snack.
It was a warm day in more than one way. It was sunny and very warm but also the warmth and friendliness of the people. There is always something so friendly about about this show that marks it apart.
As said we visited on the Sunday which felt a quieter day than when we have visited previously and I rather liked this. We drove up on the Saturday and stayed overnight so we could be at the show bright and early. I was disappointed that the pier is closed for repairs as I had really wanted an evening wander closer to the sea. The sea was a long way out. Apparently the pier will soon be fixed which is a good thing. I do like a good pier and Southport pier is a good pier.
We then celebrated our final tradition. Before getting back in the car we climb up the sand dune and say goodbye to the sea. There was a faint glimmer of blue - promise. Now I am looking to next year already.
Until then
Take care and be kind.
