Is this a quincelet I see before me?
Oh I think it is - how exciting!! Quince Major and Minor are having a very good blossom year so far and long may it last. The foliage is looking nicely healthy too. It has been a bit dry in recent weeks but not too seriously dry yet. We had a good downpour the other day which hopefully topped things up.
It has also not been dangerously cold either. Temperatures have dropped to 3 degrees a couple of times, but not too hard a frost if a frost at all. Now I look at the long range forecast and think that further frosts are very unlikely. So my dear quincelets - hang on tightly and plump up! Your time is now and you must grasp it and embrace your destinies.
I predict apple and quince crumble, I predict quince jelly and I predict.....
... mild but not completely unexpected disappointment.
I would love this to be a bumper quince year. By bumper I mean more than two on both trees. Is that too much to ask?
Usually yes..... but time will tell.
